Climate Courage - building individual and community resilience in the face of climate change impacts

We are witnessing a surge in climate impacts and climate-related mental health challenges, particularly among youth, and especially among youth in the global south. A 2021 Lancet study with 10,000 youth participants from across 10 countries found that 75% of youth think the future is frightening, 83% think people have failed to take care of the planet, and 45% state these emotions negatively affect their daily lives and functioning. Despite this, mental health remains largely absent from climate strategies and funding. This gap threatens not only the wellbeing of young people but also the sustainability of the climate movement itself.

Climate Courage addresses this urgent need by equipping youth and organizations with tools to understand, process, and respond to climate emotions through creative and community-centered approaches. By training facilitators, distributing guided mental health journals, and providing ongoing peer support and healing spaces, this initiative promotes emotional resilience, strengthens local leadership, and normalizes care in climate activism. The result is a more sustainable, inclusive, and human-centered movement that empowers youth to stay engaged for the long haul.

We will host monthly virtual events to provide consistent, free mental health support to youth. These sessions will be led by those in our community who wish to help their peers explore creative ways to heal and/or strengthen their emotional resilience.
